ADA
Training for Communications Officers (TTY training)
This 8-hour training program is designed to provide
communications personnel training on what the ADA mandates
require of telephone emergency services (9-1-1, police, fire
and medical call centers) and how to effectively process TTY
calls. This course is based on the APCO. ADA Training
Standard for Communications Officers and includes the
following topics: legal issues, deaf culture, TTY call
processing, other disabilities and related issues, people
with disabilities as crime victims, people with disabilities
and disaster management and disability resources.

Ethics
in Public Safety Communications
This 8-hour training program addresses a major issue in
public safety that few courses ever focus on but often is
the basis for many disciplinary actions and terminations
within public safety communications centers. If retaining employees
is an issue for your agency, this course is for your agency.
It provides communications personnel the foundation for
making ethical decisions by covering such topics as defining
ethics, the importance of ethical behavior, identifying
consequences of unethical behavior, how to address ethical
dilemmas, key ethical considerations for communications
officers, and an overview of state and regulatory laws
related to ethics.

Advanced Fire
Dispatching
This 8-hour training program provides communications
personnel with advanced training for handling any
fire-related emergency response from taking the initial call
to dispatching and managing resources throughout the
emergency. This is a comprehensive course taught by a Fire
Lieutenant who also has extensive background in not only
working in emergency communications centers but also
teaching emergency communications personnel.

Wireless
Implementation Awareness for Call-Takers
This is a 8-hour training program that provides
call-takers with the information needed for the transition
from E911 to Phase I/II E911. A critical component
in the successful implementation is ensuring that
call-takers understand the ALI screen is no longer a
stagnant screen and that there are variations between
wireless providers. Excel 9-1-1 will work closely with
management to develop a course that clearly defines the
implementation in your area.

ADA
Training for Communications Supervisors
This 16-hour training program is designed to provide
communications supervisors with critical training on the
legal requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act
which affect all aspects of 9-1-1 operations. Based on the
APCO. ADA Standard for Communications Supervisor, this
course covers information on the five Titles of the ADA and
their impact on 9-1-1 which includes legal requirements and
ramifications of the ADA, pre and post-employment issues,
accessibility to the physical facilities, programs and
services provided by your agency, TTY call handling, and
interaction with relay services.

Communications
Supervisor Course
This 16-hour training program is an intensive course
which addresses issues critical to effective supervision
specific to the emergency communications environment. Topics
include the role of the communications supervisor, making
the transition from "one of them" to supervisor,
modeling professional behavior, motivation (yours and
theirs) and leadership skills. This program is delivered in
a dynamic, interactive format and focuses on realistic
supervision problems common within emergency communications
centers. This is not a supervision theory-centered course
but a realistic problem-based training program.

Ethics
for Public Safety Communications Supervisors
This 8-hour training program addresses ethical
considerations for communications supervisors. Supervisors
face many challenges within the emergency communications
environment but the most challenging usually require ethical
decision making. Through problem-based scenarios,
communications supervisors will learn the importance of
ethical behavior, the consequences of unethical behavior,
how to ethically supervise employees, and how to address
ethical dilemmas and make the right decision based on
department policy, state and regulatory laws related to
ethics.

Instructor
Training Course
This 24-hour training program is designed to teach
communications personnel skills of being an effective
trainer. Topics will include training liability, adult
learning, teaching methods, effective use of audio/visual
aids and presentation design and delivery. Participants will
be required to develop and deliver a 20 minute
communications-related presentation on a topic of their
choice. Student must provide the reference material
for their topic of choice.

Developing
Training Programs
This 24-hour training program is designed to teach
experienced trainers how to develop complete training
programs from start to finish. Topics include conducting
training needs analysis, designing the training program and
developing lesson plans, instructional guides, student
materials, A/V aids, and testing instruments.
Effective implementation and evaluation methods are covered to ensure accuracy and validity of the training program.
This program is an intensive, interactive training program
which requires extensive participation by the attendees
which will be required to develop a training action plan to successfully complete the course.

ADA/TTY
Train the Trainer
This 24-hour training program is specifically designed to
provide agencies with a complete TTY training program and
training for agency trainers in delivering the initial
comprehensive TTY training and refresher training to
communications personnel as mandated by the Americans with
Disabilities Act and the Department of Justice standards.
This course provides training on presentation skills and
training on the 8-hour ADA Training for Communications
Officers course and the four (4) refresher training courses
developed by Excel 9-1-1.
