ADA/TTY Training

ADA/TTY Train the Trainer Program
Version 2.0

ADA Training for Communications Officers (TTY Training)

This 1-day training program is designed to provide communications personnel training on what the ADA mandates require of telephone emergency services (9-1-1, police, fire and medical call centers) and how to effectively process TTY calls. This course is based on the APCO ADA Training Standard for Communications Officers and includes the following topics: legal issues, deaf culture, TTY call processing, people with disabilities as crime victims, people with disabilities and disaster management, disability resources and other disabilities and related issues,

ADA Training for Communications Supervisors

This 2-day training program is designed to provide communications supervisors with critical training on the legal requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act which affect all aspects of 9-1-1 operations. Based on the APCO ADA Standard for Communications Supervisor, this course covers information on the five Titles of the ADA and their impact on 9-1-1 which includes legal requirements and ramifications of the ADA, pre- and post-employment issues, accessibility to the physical facilities, programs and services provided by your agency, TTY call handling, and interaction with relay services.

Professional Survival Skills: A Career Saving Workshop for 9-1-1 Personnel

This 1-day course is divided into two modules with both focused on self-initiated actions and mindsets which are critical to the professional survival of emergency communications personnel over the life of their public safety career. The two modules are:

    Battling the Big C: Combating Complacency and Building Excellence

    One of the biggest contributors to human failures in communications centers is the complacency of otherwise caring, dedicated, Communications Officers. This 1-day course will discuss common causes of complacency, and the consequences of letting our guard down in this high stress job. Students will be given tools to help combat this professional disease and regain performance excellence.

    Working Smart, Protecting Your Career, and Maintaining Excellence

    Communications Officers can protect their careers and build a reputation of excellence by practicing sound ethical standards and understanding basic principles of professional conduct. This class will offer attendees a light-hearted look at an important topic. Discussion will focus on individual responsibility, ethics, and avoiding career ending mistakes of the heart.

The cost of this training is $2500.00 for a flat rate for a maximum of 25 students. Alternatively, the course can be scheduled on a per student rate of $199.00 each with a minimum of 15 students guaranteed.
 

Communications Supervisor Training

This 2-day training program is an intensive course which addresses issues critical to effective supervision specific to the emergency communications environment. Topics include the role of the communications supervisor, making the transition from "one of them" to supervisor, modeling professional behavior, motivation (yours and theirs) and leadership skills. This program is delivered in a dynamic, interactive format and focuses on realistic supervision problems common within emergency communications centers. This is not a supervision theory-centered course but a realistic problem-based training program.

Why Can’t We Just All Get Along?: Unlocking the Secrets to Managing Your Employees

Yes, even in a 9-1-1 center or PSAP!  This 1-day course is specially designed for supervisors, managers and trainers who work in a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and have the responsibility for supervising calltakers and/or dispatchers. One of the most critical core competencies of anyone in a supervisory capacity is the ability to achieve productivity through others. This course will analyze a variety of “people styles” found in any workplace and provide attendees with tools to help positively influence their employees to achieve higher levels of productivity and to manage their relationships with other employees more effectively. This course will take the mystery out how employees will act under given circumstances and will provide a roadmap to supervisory personnel on how to get your employees motivated to accomplish our mission and to get along with others.

Instructor Training

Instructor Training Course

This 5-day training program is designed to teach communications personnel skills of being an effective trainer. Topics will include training liability, adult learning, teaching methods, effective use of audio/visual aids and presentation design and delivery. Participants will be required to develop and deliver a 30 minute communications-related presentation on a topic of their choice.  Student must provide the reference material for their topic of choice.

Developing Training Programs

This 5-day training program is designed to teach experienced trainers how to develop complete training programs from start to finish. Topics include conducting training needs analysis, designing the training program and developing lesson plans, instructional guides, student materials,  A/V aids, and testing instruments.  Effective implementation and evaluation methods are covered to ensure accuracy and validity of the training program. This program is an intensive, interactive training program which requires extensive participation by the attendees which will be required to develop a training action plan to successfully complete the course.

Instructor Training: Getting Serious about Training Design, Development and Evaluation!

This 3-day course will address developing training that is based on a valid training need assessment which is defensible and not based solely on an arbitrary number of training hours to meet a training requirement or policy. We will identify the key factors which directly influence the effectiveness of your training.  These factors must be considered before training begins and then evaluated as training performance outcomes. Due to the nature of this course, it is important that attendees are active 9-1-1 employees who are directly responsible for training course development and training delivery in a classroom or one-on-one training environment.

This course can be scheduled on a per student rate of $399.00 each with a minimum of 15 students guaranteed.
 

Instructor Training: Dynamic Presentation Skills for Children & Adult Learners

This 2-day training program is designed to introduce trainers to dynamic presentation skills which will gain and maintain the interest of audiences whether young or old. Attendees will learn how to take presentations to the next level by embracing a variety of instructional strategies which far exceed the results from lecture-based, traditional instructional techniques. These strategies require creativity and planning on the part of the instructor but the payoff is worth the work.

This course can be scheduled on a per student rate of $299.00 each with a minimum of 15 students guaranteed.
